Under the limited supervision of the Publications Manager, the Senior Editor manages the peer-review process and the production phase of an academic journal for the press of the UCLA American Indian Studies Center (AISC), a UC Organized Research Unit. Selects appropriate scholars to review submissions to the journal. Maintains journal publication schedules and final quality by corresponding with authors, editors, compositors, and designers. Copyedits submissions. Creates and maintains editorial database files for tracking manuscripts, images, and permissions. Oversees permission request process. Finalizes text files and images for composition, incorporates editorial changes to electronic files, and proofreads laser and other proofs. Oversees all advertising, journal exchange and exchange advertising agreements. Assists Publications Manager in designing editorial policies and procedures for books. Provides developmental editing as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Director and Publications Manager.
