SUMMARY:The Forgotten Canopy – Workshop 2
DESCRIPTION:Register HERE\nOur second workshop in “The Forgotten Canopy” Core Program will take place in the afternoon of February 11, 2023 and is the final portion of our two-day program on “Ephemeral Architecture.” This Native American community-based workshop will take place at the Gabrieliño-Tongva Sacred Springs in Santa Monica, CA, historic site of the Tongva village of Kuruvungna. At the Springs, we will share a catered lunch, and then be given a guided tour of the Kuruvungna (Gabrieliño-Tongva) Sacred Springs ( https://www.smconservancy.org/property/kuruvungna-sacred-springs/ ) by Bob Ramírez, President of the Gabrieliño-Tongva Sacred Springs Foundation, in order to learn about its rich and long history as well as its present native garden and Tongva traditional architecture.  Next, Brenner Billy, Public Programs Coordinator of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, builder, and craftsperson, will lead a hands-on educational workshop where participants will learn how to make a Chukka, a Choctaw home, with a focus on its complex woven thatch roofs.\nKuruvungna Sacred Springs, Santa Monica Conservancy\n1439 S Barrington Ave\nLos Angeles, CA 90025\n\n\n\n\nLunch: 1:30pm \nWorkshop: 2:00pm\nRegister HERE\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop 2 ( http://theforgottencanopy.create.fsu.edu/workshop-ii/ )\n\n
